Dwarka Expressway Route

Dwarka Expresswayย is regarded as a feat of engineering with several firsts. It is India’s first single-pillar expressway, featuring many underpasses and service roads throughout the 19-kilometer route that opened recently. During the construction of the Dwarka Expressway, at least 1,200 trees were planted for the first time, and the project features the country’s longest and widest 16-lane urban tunnel. It will additionally include the country’s first eight-lane elevated highway, spanning 563 km.

The Dwarka Expressway begins at Shiv Murti in Mahipalpur, Delhi (20 km) and ends at Kherki Daula toll plaza, Gurgaon (40 km). Furthermore, the newly opened stretch of NH 48 would ease traffic flow between Delhi and Gurgaon. Around 90,000 commuters are estimated to save at least 20 minutes in their travel time. The expressway’s 19-kilometer portion in Haryana cost Rs 4,100 crore to build.

When the work is completed, we will decrease the travel time between Dwarka and Manesar to 15 minutes. Similarly, the trip between Indira Gandhi International Airport and Manesar will take 20 minutes. At the same time, the journey from Mensar to the Singhu border will take 45 minutes.

Dwarka Expressway Speed limit

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has set a speed limit of 80 km/h for the 28-kilometer access limit.

Dwarka Expressway Toll Charges

NHAI declared at a Road Safety Committee meeting on March 24, 2021, that the Dwarka Expressway (and Delhi-Jaipur Expressway) will be India’s first toll-free expressway. As a result, travelers utilizing this route would not be paid any tolls.

Dwarka Expressway Latest Update

July 2024: New infrastructure works are taking place along the Dwarka Expressway as authorities go forward with preparations for the Gurgaon inter-state bus terminal (ISBT). Two potential project locations have been identified: one in Sihi village and another in Sector 36A, both close the freeway. Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav recently reviewed the Sihi site and ordered authorities to create detailed maps for state government approval.

The proposed ISBT will cover 15 acres and is intended to improve public transportation by replacing the old, congested bus terminal in Old Gurgaon. Commuters will also benefit from ISBT’s closeness to the Dwarka Expressway.

March 2024: After several delays, the Haryana length of the Dwarka Expressway is now operating. The Haryana portion, which covers approximately 19 kilometers and is divided into two pieces, was built at a cost of over Rs 4,100 crore. It consists of two sections: 10.2 kilometers from the Delhi-Haryana border to Basai Rail-over-Bridge and 8.7 kilometers from Basai Rail-over-Bridge to Kherki Daula. On March 11, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Dwarka Expressway in Antriksh Chowk, Sector 25. The newly opened segment is anticipated to relieve congestion on the NH 48, which connects Delhi and Gurgaon. More than 90,000 commuters who use this route on a daily basis would benefit from a 20-minute reduction in travel time.

Dwarka Expressway Benefits

  • The Dwarka Expressway will serve as an alternative route between Delhi and Gurgaon.
  • The Dwarka Expressway would make it faster to get to Delhi’s IGI Airport from Gurgaon, cutting travel time to 30 minutes.
  • It will cut the journey from Mumbai to Jaipur from four hours to two.

Dwarka Expressway Features

NHAI built the expressway using two lakh MT of steel, which is 30 times more than that used for the Eiffel Tower, and 20 lakh cubic meters of concrete, approximately six times more than the amount used in the construction of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

Furthermore, nearly 12,000 trees were replanted during construction, a first for India.

The expressway will have cutting-edge technologies such as Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), Advanced Traffic Management Systems, Toll Management Systems, CCTV cameras, and surveillance. This will ensure efficient traffic flow and the safety of passengers traveling along the route.
